Our trip includes Niagara Falls, Mississippi, California, Nevada and Utah

We left Niagara Falls, Ontario early in the morning under blue skies and dry roads. Our stop this night was in Indiana on the banks of the Mississippi at a hotel called the Belterra. This is a gem in the middle of no were, that we found purely by chance. Room rates are approximately $89 per night which is pretty good with free parking, great restaurants and a beautiful hotel and casino. As you can see there was still snow on the ground, and it was cool, but dry which is what we were looking for!

Next we headed to Tunica, Mississippi which is just south of Memphis, Tennessee. The pictures shown below are of two casino hotels. The picture on the left is the Gold Strike, part of the MGM chain and the picture on the right is the Horseshoe part of the Harrahs chain. The silver building in the right picture is actually the Road House hotel, part of the Harrah's chain and as the name portrays is decorated with a roadhouse theme.

Both the Gold Strike and the Horseshoe hotels are top notch and great places to stay. I would not recommend the Roadhouse. All of the casino has been redone, the rooms have not been updated. We spent tow nights here before moving on. Our original plan was to continue to Biloxi , Mississippi, however although the weather is better than Canada's, it was too cold for us and we decided to head south west towards Dallas and El Passo, Texas!

At the Roadhouse they actually have a mechanical bull. Unfortunately they did not have it operating that day, but Carol was bound and determine to get on and ride em!

There are 8 or 9 hotels in the Tunica area all with different themes. One that is interesting is the Fitzgerald hotel and casino with a castle like architecture. There is also a hotel with a Hollywood theme complete with the Bat Mobile and other assorted Hollywood themed movie props.

After Tunica, we headed south west and had a pretty uneventfull few days traveling across the southwest. We passed through Greenville, the home of Laura and George Bush. Very upscale and obviously well to do with lots of oil money around. Driving through Dallas was a treat. Even with the GPS we missed one ramp and had to go a few miles out of our way among heavy truck traffic. A word of advice, take the bypass around Dallas!

As if the heavy traffic was not enough to keep us occupied while travelling through Dallas, a fighter jet took off from the airforce base, going almost straight up! He was in a huge hurry and we wondered what this was all about while weaving through truck traffic! We learned later that a plane had crashed into an office building in Austin, Texas! He was dispatched in case this was a more serious issue. Turns out the pilot of the plane was mad at the IRS and was trying to take out a few auditers!

We stopped in Bensen, Arizona for a night just before the weather turned and got nasty. A heavy rain storm in the middle of the desert followed as we sat in the bar and watched the olympics!

Our next stop was the PIMA air museum in Tucson.
