There
are many hiking trails to in and around Palm Springs.
One of them takes you above the home of Bob Hope,
which, apparently he never slept in, using it only
for entertaining. It is perched on this hill overlooking
Palm Springs. Unfortunately there is also a water
tank just in front of it. The views are spectacular
and the exercise is fantastic!
.
Looking
away from the valley, to the west there are snow
covered mountains. In fact the entire valley is surrounded
by mountains, many of them covered by snow.
The
picture on the right is on a hiking trail that takes
you up above Palm Springs and shows some of the homes
and palm trees surrounding them.
.
The
desert is really blooming this year due to the rain
the Palm Springs received earlier in the spring.
Lots of flowers are in bloom!
.
The picture on the right is one of the many flowering bougainvillea plants
that abound in the area and the humming birds love.

During our
stay in Palm Springs we have experienced 3 earthquakes that we actually felt
and according to the map below, literally thousands more that were too small
to be felt. The ground shook for approximately 30 seconds for the first one
which was a 7.2 magnitude quake The others were in the 4.0 category. Kind
of scary, palm trees were swaying, buildings and glassware shaking, but at
least no damage for us. The 7.2 quake was in northern Mexico just a few miles
from the California border. There are 3295 earthquakes plotted on this map!
Every year
Palm Springs is host to many events. This one celebrated the end of the weekend
with fireworks as shown on the right!
.
We
are staying in Palm Springs from March 15th until
the end of April. This page will be updated from
time to time.
