The Truth About Bose 301 Speakers By Ric If you want to buy a bookshelf speaker system, I suggest that you don't look beyond Bose 301. Why do I say so? For several reasons that you will agree with, I am certain, by the time you finish reading this article.
To start with, who doesn't wasn't to buy a world-class brand, if one can afford it?
Would you say 'no' to a speaker system that insures that you can enjoy the music, in the same manner, regardless of where you are, in your room? That's what these speakers do. This is in keeping with the concept of "anywhere music", the premise on which the speakers are sold by the manufacturers.
What's more important to you: looks or performance? If you are like me, you'll go for performance. Bose 301 will never win a beauty contest for speakers, if such a contest is held. Look at the bright side. Owning radical looking speakers will help to make you look different from others whose taste for sound quality is less than the taste for the looks of the speakers.
Along with sound, you would also like clarity. These speakers deliver on that score, and bring out amazing detail in the sound.
In particular, I like the fact that these speakers are designed to be stand alone systems, unlike some systems that are intended to be used as part of a larger speaker system. This especially impacts the stereo
imaging of the speakers, in a positive way. However, I suggest you use these speakers with a sub-woofer, to get best satisfaction.
But I am not impressed with the treble on these speakers. They are a bit excessive. The bass is powerful, but flags at low frequency levels. The paper cones in the speakers make them look retro.
If you really want to bring out the best these speakers can give, use them with a 200 W+ amplifier system. They come with 8 inch woofers. Use a subwoofer of 150 watts or more, and you can listen to anything you like: hip-hop, rap, classical, or jazz. And don't forget to place the speakers properly: a bit away from the walls, so as to allow the sound to bounce a little. Ideally, keep the speakers at ear height, on a stand.
As for the price of these speakers, I am sure you will be surprised when you learn how affordable they are, particularly considering what value you're getting.
