Ski Gear

If you are a skier, then you already know that skiing can be a wonderful experience regardless of whether you are skiing at one of the local hills in your city or town or you are out on some of the major slopes in Vermont or in the Colorado Rockies. Even if you are a cross country skier, you get to enjoy the outdoors, the crisp snow and the exercise that goes with it.

However skiing can also be not so great if you do not have the right clothes and the right equipment. Everyone one wants to have the latest “IN” clothing, however if you are cold on the ski hill or worse frozen on the lifts, then it is not much fun. Many skiers will only last one or two runs simply because they did not dress warm enough. If you are skiing in cold temperatures, you will need to have well insulated ski pants, jacket, gloves and face mask to ensure that nothing is exposed and your body remains at a comfortable temperature.

The skies you use along with the poles are equally important. Whether it is downhill, trick skiing or cross country skiing, everyone needs to have the right equipment to match their size as well as their skiing style. If you are just beginning to ski, here is a list of things that you will want to take into consideration.

  • As you improve you abilities, you will gradually gravitate to better skis, however beginners will find that shorter skies are more easily handled than longer skies. You have more control and they generally require less skill to get started with.
  • Your clothing should be waterproof and if having the latest in colors and materials is important for you, make sure that they will be sufficiently warm enough for the type of skiing you intend to do.
  • Gloves are very important and give you more control than mittens will. Mittens are known to keep hands warmer, so if you do go with gloves, then you need to make sure there is sufficient room in the gloves to keep your hands warm.
  • Face and eye protection is also required for several reasons. Protection from the sun is important so that glare does not create snow blindness. If you happen to be out on a windy or snowy day, good goggles with glare protection are also must haves.
Above all dress warm, ski safely and have fun.
